HARMAN’s Crown Introduces Its DCi Network Display Amplifiers With Front Panel Display and AVB Connectivity

ELKHART, Indiana — HARMAN’s Crown Audio today announced it is expanding its DriveCore Install (DCi) Series amplifier range with the introduction of its DCi Network Display 8|600ND and 4|1250ND power amplifiers, featuring front-panel status displays and AVB (Audio Video Bridging) connectivity. The new eight- and four-channel DCi Network Display amplifiers will be the first professional audio amplifier to be certified by the AVnu Alliance. DCi Network Display amplifiers will deliver reliable audio performance and networked operation in AVB-based audio/video systems.

“Since their recent introduction our Crown DCi Series amplifiers have set a new standard for installed sound, and our new DCI Network Display amplifiers build upon this industry-leading performance by offering certifiable compatibility with AVB-based installations, along with easy setup and operation and unshakable reliability. Combining DriveCore technology with AVB represents another first from Crown as we continue to lead the way for professional amplifier innovation for the most demanding large-scale environments,” said Daniel Saenz, Business Segement Manager, Crown Audio.

Both DCi Network Display amplifiers feature a front-panel display and LED indicators that provide at-a-glance indication of key parameters. A large multifunction knob and push buttons enable instant access to control functions. The amplifiers are compatible with HARMAN’s HiQnet Audio Architect™ system setup and control software and utilize TCP/IP-based protocol in HiQnet for network monitoring and control.

The eight-channel DCi 8|600ND delivers 600W into 8 ohms (300, 600 and 300W into 16, 4 and 2 ohms) and the four-channel DCi 4|1250ND provides 1250W into 8, 4 or 2 ohms (625W into 16 ohms). Both amplifiers offer direct drive “constant voltage” capabilities for 70Vrms and 100Vrms amplification without the need for a step-up transformer, yielding higher audio quality in distributed audio applications with power outputs of 1250W and 600W respectively.

Like all Crown DCi Series amplifiers, the DCi 8|600ND and DCi 4|1250ND utilize HARMAN’s proprietary DriveCore amplifier IC chip for powerful, highly efficient operation from a compact form factor measuring just 2 RU high. The DriveCore chip combines the amplifier driver stage into the power output stage along with additional audio-signal functions, yet is about the size of a postage stamp. The DriveCore-based Class D, next-generation PWM design dramatically reduces size and power consumption and yields much more energy-efficient operation.

Both amplifiers provide a host of networking and control features to ensure reliable operation, including continuous load monitoring, comprehensive error reporting, pilot tone monitoring and programmable general purpose input/output (GPIO) ports. The DCi 8|600ND and DCi 4|1250ND offer extensive DSP capabilities such as LevelMAX™ limiters for the inputs and outputs, with thermal limiting, input and output delay, input and output EQ, built-in crossovers and a built-in signal generator.

The amplifiers incorporate an exclusive Power Factor Corrected (PFC) universal power supply that is designed to deliver maximum power in any country and their universal AC input accepts voltages from 100 – 240 VAC, 50/60Hz (+/- 10%). A newly-designed cooling system focuses the airflow on where it’s needed most, yielding maximum efficiency even under demanding operational conditions.

Crown DCi Series amplifiers are built for the most demanding conditions of continuous professional use and carry a 3-year, no-fault fully transferrable warranty.

HARMAN’s Martin Professional Deployed at 2014 Paralympic Games For Creative Lighting & Midair Effects

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — To celebrate the historic 2014 Paralympic Games, rental company Euroshow provided HARMAN’s Martin lighting systems for a special program featuring an ice show at Russia’s Yubileny Sport Palace in St. Petersburg. The program was held before the final stage of the Torch Relay. Lighting designer, Alexey Yevstifeyev, who deployed Martin fixtures based on their functionality and brightness, proposed the lighting concept of the show to feature creative lighting and midair effects, consisting of 20 MAC Viper Profiles, 12 Atomic 3000 DMX, 20 RUSH MH3 Beams, 48 MAC 101s and 20 MAC 2000 Wash XB’s.

The ice show took place at the Yubileny Sport Palace’s hockey rink with the main challenge being the limited time for installation. Taking this factor into consideration, Yevstifeyev used a combined truss mounting and floor mounting system.

By placing the MAC 101 fixtures on the floor around the rink, he was able to create a beautiful display with compact and extremely fast LED wash lights, emphasizing the artist’s movements through the reflection effects.

According to Yevstifeyev, ice shows are unique in that the ice surface, together with light projections, becomes an individual element of performance design. Yevstifeyev chose to deploy the MAC Viper to get the maximum out of the space he was given.

“I’ve been acquainted with Martin’s MAC Viper for a very long time already,” Yevstifeyev explained. “They have a brilliant reputation for functionality and light intensity. They have already become a workhorse in the industry. That’s why lighting designers constantly choose them for their projects. Besides, MAC Viper has a very good collection of creative and beautiful gobos. Using them, one can create really interesting pictures. They were really useful for me on this project!”

Additionally, the RUSH MH 3 Beam added a great dynamic to the show and put the accents into the figure skaters’ performance with different styles and themes.

“Although the MH3 Beam belongs to the entry-level line, it is very effective,” said Yevstifeyev. “It proves to be very strong when compared to alternative fixtures when you need to create bright beam effects in midair, so it is no surprise we at Euroshow use these fixtures quite regularly.”

HARMAN’s AKG Enters the Aviation Market with Introduction of AV100 Headset

VIENNA, Austria – HARMAN’s AKG today announced it is expanding into a new market with the introduction of its AV100 aviation headset, the company’s first headset designed for general aviation pilots. The AV100 utilizes proprietary hybrid noise-reduction technology to block cockpit noise and offers features specifically designed for aviation use. The AV100 was developed in collaboration with pilot Hannes Arch, a member of the Red Bull Air Race Team and Red Bull Air Race World Series champion.

“When AKG approached me to collaborate on their first aviation headset, I was totally confident that we could create the best product of its kind,” said Arch. “By combining my piloting experience with AKG’s more than 65 years of experience in acoustical design, I am confident we have set a new standard for aviation headsets.”

The AKG AV100 employs exclusive AKG-developed hybrid active noise-cancelling technology and signal processing that is calibrated to most effectively attenuate the specific frequencies heard within an airplane. The addition of a superior audio reproduction system creates the most enjoyable and relaxing listening environment within today’s market. The AV100 incorporates top-quality drivers and electronics to deliver clear, intelligible speech and music reproduction. It has a built-in microphone and boom that can be mounted on either the left or right side of the headset. The windscreen is washable, replaceable and a spare is included in the premium carrying bag.

The AV100 offers a number of additional aviation-centric features. It has built-in LED map lights on each ear cup that provide illumination during night flights or added visibility in cockpits with dim lighting. Its cable-mounted control unit offers Bluetooth connectivity and an AUX input enabling wireless or wired interfacing with navigation devices, tablet PCs, phones or other devices. An adjustable automatic input switch lets the wearer set his or her audio preferences so that intercom messages take precedence over other channels if so desired. The headset has a 6-pin LEMO connector and a standard dual-plug adapter is included. The AV100’s large padded ear cups and headband ensure lasting comfort even during long flights.

The AKG AV100 comes with a premium carry bag with enough spare space for sunglasses, navigation devices, a tablet device and more.
